A great responsibility, says Jhulan

KOLKATA: The newly appointed Indian women’s cricket team captain, Jhulan Goswami, feels it is a great responsibility on her shoulder to lead the side in the ODI series against Australia.

“I am really excited and honoured by the Board’s decision to make me the captain of India. It also means I have to shoulder a great amount of responsibility and perform,” she told The Hindu.

The mediumpacer was of the opinion that every player would try and give off her best for the country and felt the team composition was perfect for the tour.

“We will have to perform well to win the ODI series. It is an important tour for us because the World Cup will follow soon after,” she said.

On the inclusion of Anjum Chopra, Jhulan said the veteran middle-order batswoman would be an asset in batting.

“Anjum carries a great amount of experience which will help the side immensely,” she felt.

“We had a poor tour in England. It is imperative that we win this series to erase the bad memories,” she added. — Special Correspondent
