CITU seeks Chief Minister’s intervention, plans meetings

“Government has failed to ensure safety of workers at work spots”
CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu State Committee of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions have decided to hold public meetings to seek Chief Minister’s intervention in protecting the rights of the trade union leaders.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, A. Soundararajan, general secretary of the State committee of the CITU, said it was regrettable to note that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime was making tall claims that they were a “worker-friendly government”. But, in reality, the government and the official enforcement machinery, including the Inspectorate of Factories, had “failed” to ensure safety of workers at the work spots.
Mr. Soundararajan said as many as 10 trade unions had agreed to participate in the public meetings which would be held on October 13 at Tiruporur, October 15 at Maraimalainagar, October 17 at Poonamallee and October 21 at Thiruvottiyur.
