COIMBATORE: The examination date for the State Eligibility Test (SET) scheduled to be held on November 2 is most likely to be postponed, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University G. Thiruvasagam told The Hindu over telephone from New Delhi on Monday. The last date for receipt of filled-in applications was August 29. The postponement was because of a result of many college teachers evincing interest to appear for the examination after the announcement of the recommendations of the UGC Pay Review Committee. “The recommendations stipulate that lecturers, who will be assistant professors, have to necessarily be SET or NET (National Eligibility Test) qualified. Hence, those who do not have this eligibility, have urged the university (which is the nodal agency for conduct of examinations) to postpone the examination to enable them to attend the same,” the Vice-Chancellor said. There was also a request from teachers to include subjects that were not included in the original list of subjects for the examinations.
