Grama sabhas to evaluate job needs

KOZHIKODE: Grama sabhas being held in the district under the aegis of the Poverty Alleviation Unit from October 7 to 21, as part of Rural Development Week, will estimate the job requirement in the region.

This year, the grama sabhas are special since it will be an estimation of demand for labour and concerted intervention, District Project Director, Poverty Alleviation Unit, P.E. Sreekumar said.

Grama sabhas are also part of an awareness creation measure on the opportunities for manual labour. Grama sabhas are being held in all the panchayats with the involvement of Kudumbasree groups and other agencies. Those who have registered under the National Employment Guarantee Scheme are being distributed job cards since October 2.

The labour budget in the district for 2009-2010 will be based on the estimates.
