The road overbridge in Tirunelveli, known as Thiruvalluvar two-tier bridge, located at junction, touches some important areas. But the overbridge is not utilised to the full extent. As a result, Palayamkottai and Tirunelveli are witnessing traffic problems. If the bridge is renovated and equipped with proper traffic lights and glowing dividers, it will handle high volume traffic. I request the authorities concerned to look into this matter. P. Senthil Saravana Durai, Vzhavallan, Tuticorin district. ATM centresIt has been a trouble to the people residing in towns like Valliooor, Nanguneri to get access to ICICI ATM centres. Tirunelveli has three ATMs but just as we cross Tirunelveli and move on to Nagercoil, we find not a single ATM centre. Will bank officials do the needful?
S.M. Pravin Kumar, Palayamkottai. Welcome announcementThis refers to the report “Stalin wants renovation of rural school completed by 2010” (The Hindu, Page 4,). It is heartening to note that the elementary schools and middle schools situated in villages will get facelift within two years by the Rural Development Department’s initative. The department’s decision to replace all asbestos roofing with double title roofing needs reconsideration. Fixing thermocol under asbestos will control heat during the summer. It will be a costless method than placing double tiles roofing. G. Purushothaman, Tirunelveli. Pensioners’ hardshipThe Fifth or Sixth Pay Commission submits their recommendations for the pay and pension revisions both for the employees and pensioners of the governments alike. In case of the banks and LIC of India, the Government authorises the corporate heads to negotiate with the employees’ associations and arrive at a settlement for pay revision. These associations force their managements by pressure tactics and ensure for their pay revision once in every five years. But the pensioners are left in lurch. N. Kasilingam, Tuticorin. Pantry car neededFor want of a pantry car, catering is disrupted in long distance running express trains like Kanyakumari-Mumbai express and Jayanthi Janatha Express running from Nagercoil, as passengers are forced to eat whatever is available from platforms in between Nagercoil and Bombay and vice versa. In view of the above, gullible passengers are forced to eat even biscuits and drinks laced with sedatives at times. Both these trains are running without a pantry car service, owing to minor repairs for three months as such passengers and children have to undergo much hardship for want of food/ snacks/drinks. V. Kumar, Thekkurichy, Kanyakumari district.
