Three injured as bus runs out of control

CHENNAI: An MTC bus that ran out of control Sunday morning on EVR Salai injured three cyclists, including a senior citizen, whose condition was critical on Sunday evening.

According to the Kilpauk Traffic Investigation cell personnel, route No 37 G bus plying between Ayyappan Thangal and Vallalar Nagar went out of control near Ega Theatre, knocking down people and trees on its path. The bus finally came to a halt after ramming a wall nearby.

Police said Lawrence (35), Ranjith Kumar (41) and Karuppaiyya (70) were injured.

They were rushed to the hospital. Karuppaiyya suffered severe head injuries and was admitted to the Government General Hospital.

82-year-old killed

An 82-year-old man died after being hit by an MTC bus at the Pudupet bus stop on Saturday.

Anna Square Traffic Investigations identified the deceased as Ramalingam of Saiful Mulk Street in Pudupet. The accident occurred on Saturday morning when the man attempted to board the bus, police said.Bus driver Vijayarao was arrested.
