Tamil Nadu
It was a delight to read R. Vaigai’s article on P. Ramamurti (Sept. 20). The article touches all aspects of the character of a great Communist. PR, as Mr. Ramamurti was affectionately called, was influenced by the ideology of Communism which in our time had spread widely and made a great impact on the course of world history. He played an active part in fighting for the working class. He was a revolutionary democrat and a powerful speaker. N. Shanmuga Priya, Singanallur. Power cutThe Government announced recently that the two-hour power cut will be between 12 noon and 2 p.m. in Vadavalli instead of between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. What difference does this make? Power cut takes place during nights too for about three to four hours. People from all walks of life and industries all over Tamil Nadu have expressed their difficulties. Industries incur production loss and also face labour problem. The Government should lift the unscheduled power cuts. As the power cut has existed for more than six months, it is time the Government made alternative arrangements to tide over the problem so that people can lead a normal life. A.D. Rangaswamy Iyengar, Navavur Pirivu. Night skitOn September 17 at about 9 p.m. the electricity department played its quirk of an entertaining drama. Within a space of 30 minutes, power supply was interrupted three or four times with one or two minutes in between. Is it called ‘unannounced power cut’? Will the department play the same skit every night? Pray, let it be during day time! S. Venkatachalam, Kavundampalayam. Bank facilityOld towns like Palani do not have adequate facilities such as bus, bank and ATM. The area covering Palani Mariamman Temple, Perianayaki Amman Temple and Lakshmi Narasimman Temple is devoid of essential facilities such as bank ATM and bus. People living near these temples and pilgrims find it difficult to transact money because of lack of banking facilities. M.S. Sankaran, Palani. Transport woesThis refers to the photograph (Students at the collectorate with their bus passes) under the head ‘Have a heart’ (Sept. 2). This shows how heartless are the bus crew. This is not an isolated incident. Everyone is at the mercy of the Transport Corporation bus crew. Will the authorities look into this and help the hapless commuters? A. Vellingiri, N.G.G.O. Colony.
