Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The death toll in the bomb blast at Mehrauli on September 27 rose to three on Sunday with 24-year-old Ishtiaq Ansari succumbing to his injuries at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences Trauma Centre here.

“Ishtiaq passed away around 8 a.m. He was on life support system since the day he was admitted to the hospital. He had sustained serious brain injuries and was almost dead when he was brought to the trauma centre,” said Trauma Centre Medical Superintendent Dr. M.C. Misra.

Ishtiaq, a first year MBA student of Integrated Management College in Saket, was passing by the Sarai market along with his two friends when the bomb went off.

Ishtiaq sustained head injuries in the blast, while his friends escaped with minor injuries.

The three had gone to the Mehrauli market on Saturday afternoon for some last minute Eid shopping.

Besides Ishtiaq, the two others who lost their lives in the explosion are Santosh (9) and Deepu (22). Santosh was killed on the spot, while Deepu succumbed to his injuries on October 3 at the Trauma Centre.
