KOCHI: The case of the Sreesanth and the Kerala Cricket Association just got stranger. When the fast bowler, who was coming back from an injury, was omitted from the Indian team for the recent Sri Lankan tour, the BCCI said that Sreesanth had to prove himself in the domestic circuit. Surprisingly, the Kerala Cricket Association did not include him in the State team for the Moin-ud-Dowla tournament in Hyderabad and this raised many eyebrows. A little later, Sreesanth said that though he was fit, his home association did not give him a chance to prove himself. But on Sunday, the KCA Secretary T.C. Mathew said that Sreesanth was not included in the Moin-ud-Dowla tourney team as he was unavailable. “First Sreesanth said he was available and then later he said he was unavailable. We have recorded in the minutes of our meeting that he would be taken in the team if he was fit and available,” explained Mr. Mathew after the Central Council meeting here. “And when we included him in the team for the KSCA tournament (in Bangalore) which came later, he played one match, but bowled only one over of medium-pace and seven overs of leg spin, which showed that he was not fit,” said Mr. Mathew. “Even now, he did not play in the Board President’s XI. So the fitness concern is still there.” Despite repeated attempts, Sreesanth could not be reached for his version. The mystery thus remains. — Principal Correspondent
