CHENNAI: A team of nine athletes from Tamil Nadu returned from Sri Lanka with a rich haul of 20 gold medals and one silver from the Sri Lanka athletics championship held in Puttlam, about 10 km from Colombo. T. Manisha with four gold medals and R. Ramya with three gold medals did the star roles. The Tamil Nadu Athletics Association felicitated the athletes at the Nehru Stadium on Sunday. Present on the occasion were the President of the TNAA W.I. Davaram, secretary Neelasivalingaswamy and treasurer Easwara Rao aside from the leader of the delegation M. Ramasubramaniam, president of the Tiruchi AA. Mrs Annavi and Pugazhendi were the other officials to go. The medal winners: Men: Gold: A. Karthikeyan (high jump), P. Karupanna (800 & 1500m), N. Shankar (discus, shot put), D. Suresh Babu (100m & long jump), 4 x 100m. Silver: M.S. Vivek (100m). Women: Gold: A. Jessy (100 & 200m), P. Subhashini (long jump & triple jump), R. Ramya (400, 800 and 100m hurdles), T. Manisha (Javelin (U-18 and women), shot put and discus); 4 x 100m.
