Records galore at the Dussera Games

Mysore: It was time for records at the annual Dussera Games at the Chamundi Vihar stadium here on Sunday. There were four records in the first six events which were completed on the day.

S.G. Harish a Railway clerk at Hubli set the trend with a superb run in the 1500m for men clocking 4:02.00s besting Shankar Dixit’s two year old mark of 4:04.25s.

Then Mysore’s Ranjith Rai piped Jayaprakash C. Shetty of City in the 400m final for men with a time of 49.25s which was .04 seconds better than S. Bharath’s mark set in 2005. Vikas M. Puthran then bettered Amith Raj’s record in the 200 metres timing 21.7 seconds before P.J. Purandhar heaved the javelin to a distance of 69.65m for another record.

Later, S.B. Akshaya rewrote a long standing record in the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.72m. before international Sahana Kumari bested a record the women’s high hump record with a an effort of 1.78 metres.

In the half-marathon Kashinath Aswale won with ease. Yashodha of DK added Rs. 30000 to her kitty with the women’s first place finish.
