State to mobilise funds for housing for the poor

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Forests and Housing Benoy Viswom has said that the government will mobilise the support of voluntary organisations and individuals to fulfil the objectives of shelter for all the poor.

In an article released in connection with World Habitat Day, the Minister said that about 60,000 houses built under the one lakh housing scheme would have to be renovated.

The budget provisions and money raised through lottery tickets would not be sufficient for renovation of all the houses.

The panchayats had been asked to set apart 15 per cent of their grants for housing for those living below the poverty line under the EMS Housing Scheme.
