It is heartening to learn that Prof. K. Nageswara Rao has been appointed ‘Rector’ of S. K.University, Anantapur. The executive council of the university has made a wise decision in selecting the right person for the right position. He is known for his sincerity and honesty. He has immensely contributed to the department of economics. I hope, he will definitely do justice to all sections of the people and work for development of the university . Dr. M. Nazeeruddin, Kurnool Sand damsThe extension work by the SVU’s PG Centre at Kadapa (Vemana University) for some industries near Kurnool indicated depletion of both sand and groundwater in the Tungabhadra riverbed due to large-scale removal of sand during flash floods and extensive and mining for construction. Construction of sand dams across the river at regular intervals downstream of the Tungabhadra reservoir by using a methodology perfected in certain arid countries in Africa and Middle East helps to enhance the sand and groundwater resources of the riverbed. R. Jagadiswara Rao, Tirupati Breaking the queueSome employees of the SBI main branch here go out of their way to help customers who are close to them, ignoring those standing in the queue. In my view, it is not a healthy sign. The security guards also indulge in chit-chatting near the entrance and never care to set right the queue lines. It is has become a common sight with customers breaking the line system and the security guards watching the ‘tamasha’. I request the senior officials to ensure that some order is maintained. Eggoni Syama Sundar, Madanapalle Disposal of carcassSanitation in Anantapur town is very bad. A road leading from Ashok Nagar bridge to Bangalore road meeting exactly opposite All India Radio, has become a dumping site for animal carcasses. The putrefied carcasses emit horrendous stench. Pedestrians who often use this road are subjected to this nuisance. The Municipal authorities should adopt a scientific approach to dispose the dead animals. G. Azeemoddin, Anantapur
