Ward offices sought in each extension Market sought in each area DAVANGERE: Senior citizens have sought more libraries in Davangere city as well as a plan to revamp parks so that they can take regular morning and evening walks. Members of the Davangere Senior Citizens’ Forum, at the celebrations of the International Day of Older Persons, submitted a charter of demands to district in-charge Minister S.A. Ravindranath here on Monday. They said the elderly were now focussed on reading, for which libraries needed to be developed. Despite retirement, many of them were keen on keeping abreast of the latest happenings in society. Library facilities would ensure that they kept themselves fruitfully occupied. Poor shapeParks in the city were in poor shape, they said and urged the Minister to ensure that they were well developed so that the elderly had place to exercise. Ward offices of the Davangere City Corporation should be set up in each extension so that senior citizens could submit applications in case any issues were to be redressed. A market could also be set up in each area so that they could purchase things they needed without much effort. The Minister promised them that more libraries would be set up and instructed those manning the existing ones to equip them with latest reading material. PromiseHe also promised the senior citizens that he would ask the Davangere City Corporation to develop parks and separate walkways for the elderly. H.N. Shadaksharappa, Editor of a local newspaper, was present on the occasion.
