Sir, — The ‘Janaspandana’ launched by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa aims at addressing public grievances. Information about the programme needs to be publicised. The programme should be held in all gram panchayats. People in villages should be made aware of the government schemes. Officials of government departments must be present at these meetings. Deputy commissioners should ensure that the programme is well-publicised. S.N. Amrith Moodbidri Pre-paid auto stand neededSir, — Kalasipalyam is a locus of activity, especially for transporters. However, passengers who arrive there are forced to start their day with arguments with autorickshaw drivers, while negotiating fares. No driver seems willing to switch on the meter. A few of them even try and snatch bags from the people. Many of them even act as commission agents for nearby hotels. The safety of the people as well as their belongings are at risk. Therefore, the police and the Transport authorities should consider establishing a pre-paid autorickshaw stand there. Nagarajan V. Acharya Bangalore Payment of water billsSir, — The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has been sending water bills to residents of Vidyamanyanagar, Omkaranagar and Raghavendranagar, directing them to pay the amount at Vijaya Bank branch at Peenya Dasarahalli. The bank branch is 12 km away and people are finding it difficult to go there and pay the bill. The BWSSB was requested to allow people to make payments at the Sunkadakatte branch of Vijaya Bank instead. But, so far no action has been taken in this regard. The authorities are requested to look into it immediately. K.R. Raghavendra Rao Bangalore Bank lendingSir, — The U.S. financial crisis was said to be the result of profligate lending by banks and financial institutions without taking sufficient safeguards. The American government had to pump in taxpayers’ money to tide over the crisis. However, the investors’ confidence has been shaken. The situation is similar in India. Egged on by the Finance Minister, the banks are forced to lend indiscriminately to all sections of society without applying strict guidelines. The Minister talks of “loan targets.” The people would like to know what the “recovery targets” have been over ten years. G.K.S. Kandasubramanian, Bangalore Water supplySir, — For the past ten days there has been severe water scarcity on 60th and 61st Cross in Kumaraswamy Layout 1st Stage. Water is supplied on alternate days from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Due to this, residents do not get adequate water. I request the authorities concerned to look into the matter and ensure adequate supply of water. S. Raghavendra, Bangalore Readers can send their letters to: letters.mangalore @thehindu.co.in
