Venkaiah warns Centre

Neena Vyas

NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu warned the Centre on Saturday that it would have to pay a heavy price if it imposed President’s Rule in Orissa.

He was asked about the continuing violence in Orissa and the Centre’s threat.

While all violence was condemnable, his view was that the Orissa government had done its best to control it.

As for the Centre’s directives, he said the United Progressive Alliance government had displayed its partisanship, not taking any action against the Assam government during the agitation against Hindi-speaking people and against the West Bengal government when large-scale violence was reported from Nandigram.
