Rotary award for bank chairman

Staff Reporter

Chennai: The Rotary Club of Chennai Kodambakkam on Saturday conferred the ‘For the Sake of Honour award’ on Indian Bank chairman and managing director M.S. Sundara Rajan.

R. Srinath, president of the club, and T.R. Krishnamurthy, advisor of the club, said that Mr. Sundara Rajan was a driving force behind the progress of the bank. They commended his humility and willingness to serve.

The award citation said: “Under his leadership, the entire team is charged for greater business exploits. The overall business of Indian Bank having crossed Rs.1 lakh crore as on March 31, with the net profit too crossing Rs.1,000 crore, is merely a beginning for many a milestone to follow.”

N. Murali, Managing Director of The Hindu, presented the award to the veteran banker. Mr. Murali said that Mr.Sundara Rajan had always put the institution before him and underplayed his own role. Mr.Sundara Rajan said that financial inclusion was among the primary goals of Indian Bank. The bank also placed emphasis on micro-credit, especially for self-help groups.

Club members deemed the occasion special as it was a meeting of three institutions – Rotary International, Indian Bank and The Hindu – that were all over a century old.

Rotary Club of Chennai Kodambakkam has lined up several programmes for the year, including service to the disabled and tying up with sister clubs abroad.
