Jewellery expo begins

CHENNAI: A three-day jewellery exhibition, Zak Jewels 2008, showcasing over one lakh designs by more than 35 jewellers got under way at Hotel Taj Coromandel, Nungambakkam, on Saturday.

From a pearl set for Rs.500 to an exquisite silver jewellery of ‘Ramar Pattabishekam’ costing Rs.7.20 lakh, a range of jewellery has been showcased.

Giving details of the 19th edition of the jewellery exhibition, which is conceptualised, planned and executed by Zak Trade Fairs and Exhibitions, its Managing Director Syed Zakir Ahmed told reporters that leading jewellers from Kolkata, Mumbai, Jaipur, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Chennai have displayed collections for various occasions. Jewellery made of platinum, diamonds, gold, silver, gems and pearls are on display and sale.

While the last edition of the show here generated business worth Rs.6 crore, the current edition is expected to generate Rs.8 crore to Rs.10 crore, he said. The exhibition is open between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
