Encephalitis toll reaches 316

Gorakhpur (UP): As many as eight children succumbed to brain fever here during the past two days taking the toll due to the deadly disease to 316, official sources said here on Saturday. As many as 183 patients are undergoing treatment in BRD Medical College hospital and the adjoining district hospitals, they said. A total of 1639 patients have so far fallen prey to water-borne and mosquito-borne encephalitis and admitted to various hospitals of the region. The dead include two from neighbouring Nepal and 33 from Bihar.
