New ZP president assumes office

Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: The president of Shimoga District Janata Dal (Secular), M. Srikanth, said here on Saturday that he would not allow the Bharatiya Janata Party to come to power in the zilla panchayat at any cost as it was being led jointly by the Congress and the JD (S).

Addressing presspersons after assuming office on Friday, he said that there was no scope for the BJP to play its “Operation Kamala trick” in the panchayat where the Congress and the JD (S) supported each other. Mr. Srikanth said that his first priority was to strengthen the party at the taluk and the district levels.

Mr Srikanth also said that he would take up the membership enrolment drive to widen party base in the district.

Party leaders G. Madappa, M.B. Shivanna and Sham Sundar were present.
