Co-optex’s mobile outlet

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Co-optex will shortly launch a mobile outlet to target the niche market of IT employees, according to its managing director and special officer M.P. Nirmala.

“We have already purchased a bus and are developing it as a counter so that employees can get in, make their purchase and exit easily,” she said recently.

The mobile outlet will be on the lines of the retail outlets set up in colleges.

Ms.Nirmala was talking to presspersons at an exhibition at Shobana Marriage Hall in Arya Gowda Road, West Mambalam, which was inaugurated by Handlooms Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran.

Mr.Ramachandran said that so far, the organisation had conducted exhibitions in 65 places. For this festival season Co-optex hopes to net a sale of Rs.60 crore.

“If a weaver is paid Rs.80 by a master weaver, Co-optex offered him Rs.150 for cotton saris. The pay goes up to Rs.600 for silk weavers,” he said.

On sale at the exhibition are handloom silk and cotton saris, dress materials, shirts and bed linen.

Some of the latest innovations on display include the light-and-sound sari, the magic sari which reveals motifs of an elephant and a peacock, cut-work sequin sewn silk saris and a wide range of casual cotton and silk embroidered saris.
