Nowhere to go: Victims of the communal violence in Kandhamal at a relief camp at Phulbani.

BHUBANESWAR: At least two persons were killed as fresh violence was reported from two villages under Tumudibandha block of Kandhamal district on Friday.

The incidents took place when a mob attacked houses of Christian families in the interior villages of Deopara and Sundhipingal in the early hours.

The villagers reportedly clashed with the mob, resulting in the death of two persons. The victims belonged to two different communities, police said.

Additional forces had been sent to Tumudibandha to maintain law and order.

Director-General of Police Manmohan Praharaj visited several areas that witnessed large-scale communal violence during the past few weeks.

Paramilitary forces were also sent to Kantamal block of Boudh district where over 100 houses were burnt down on Thursday.

Although violence continued in Kandhamal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told reporters that his government was taking strong steps to bring the situation under control.
