Anganwadi workers seek Rahul’s help
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Anganwadi employees have urged Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi to help them get a better deal from the UPA government.
In a memorandum to Mr. Gandhi here, the workers, working under the Centrally sponsored Integrated Child Development Scheme, wanted their monthly honorarium to be fixed at a minimum of Rs.5,000 from the present Rs.800 for workers and Rs.500 for helpers.
The employees, belonging to the Indian National Anganwadi Employees’ Federation, affiliated to INTUC, pointed out that they were serving in child welfare centres for the last 32 years with a meagre salary.
Besides, they also wanted to be treated as government employees, paid a monthly pension of Rs.1,000, gratuity of Rs.50,000 post retirement, Employees Provident Fund facilities, and appointment of a national commission to study their working and living conditions.
