Plea to obey rules on elephant use

Thrivananthapuram: The Thrissur-based Elephant Lovers Association has urged the government to issue orders to all the 14 District Collectors to strictly enforce the Performing Animals Registration Rules 2001 in the State in future, particularly during the coming Navaratri festival season.In identical memoranda submitted to the Forest and Devaswom Ministers on Thursday, secretary of the association V.K. Venkitachalam drew their attention to a meeting convened by them in Thiruvananthapuram on May 14, 2008, to discuss steps for bringing to an end the harassment of captive elephants.
