Tension as baby girl dies in Theni village

THENI: The death of a three-month-old baby girl caused tension at Unjampatti near here on Friday.
The baby was admitted to the Periakulam Government Hospital for pneumonia treatment on Wednesday and died on Thursday.
According to sources, the baby’s parents Iyyappan and Adhi Lakshmi took the child to the primary health centre at Veerapandi and administered DPT injection on September 30 as per the direction of the village health nurse.
Observation
Hospital staff kept the baby under observation for an hour in the PHC and later asked them to take her home. She was struggling to breathe that night.
They took her to a private clinic at Alli Nagaram for treatment.
The doctor advised them to admit her to Periakulam GH as she needed an emergency treatment.
The PHC staff said that similar injection was administered to seven children on that day.
They did not have any problem.
