“Spread Gandhian ideals”

PUDUKOTTAI: Gandhian philosophy of non-violence and honesty has assumed a greater significance in in the society and the principle of ‘ahimsa’ and its efficacy in containing violence should be popularised among the masses, Chairman of National Control Commission of Communist Party of India (CPI) R. Nallakannu said.

Speaking at the valediction of the two-day ‘Gandhian festival’ organised by the All India Mahatma Gandhi Social Welfare Forum as part of Gandhi Jayanti here on Thursday, Mr. Nallakannu said that service organisations should play a vital role in propagating the efficacy of Gandhian philosophy among the masses, particularly in villages.

Patriotism, sacrifice and perseverance towards nation-building process were the virtues of Gandhian philosophy. Every citizen should realise their importance, he said. Mr. Nallakannu appealed to the service organisations to emulate their example for the overall socio-economic development of the country. Forum founder V.N. Dinakaran hailed the services of people representing various walks of life who were conferred the ‘Gandhian Award’ on the occasion. The award for social service was conferred on Mr. Nallakannu; for literature on N. Dharmarajan; for educational service on Headmaster of Panchayat Union Primary School, Neduvasal Vadakku, A. Karuppiah; for art on the artist-brothers M. Ayyappa and M. Rajappa; and for Naturotherapy and natural farming on S. Jayaraman.
