NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man was stabbed to death and his brother seriously injured by half a dozen men over a trivial issue at Shakarpur here on Wednesday. While three of the accused have been arrested, three local policemen have been suspended for not reacting in time. According to the police, the incident took place around 8-45 p.m. when Nadeem, who is said to have a criminal past, had an altercation with a local resident, Imran, as the latter was quarrelling with a rickshaw puller over the parking of the vehicle. Following a heated exchange, Nadeem left the place. About an hour later, he returned with some other men allegedly armed with knives and attacked Imran. The police said Imran’s brother Dilshad tried to intervene at which he was also assaulted. Imran was rushed to a nearby nursing home where he succumbed to his injuries. The police said Dilshad has been admitted to the Trauma Centre of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences. The police have registered a murder case and arrested three of the accused, identified as Sirajuddin, Arif and Wasim. A hunt has been launched for the other accused. Acting on a complaint by local residents alleging that three beat constables, Bhupender, Dharmender and Pankaj Rana, were drunk at the time of the incident, senior police officers have placed them under suspension pending an inquiry.
