Tamil Nadu cops in Delhi to track terror trail

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A Tamil Nadu Police team is here in the Capital to join the interrogation of suspected militants who are presently in the custody of the Special Cell of the Delhi police.

The Tamil Nadu police have urged their Delhi counterparts to share information about any plans of the terror outfit Indian Mujahideen to carry out attacks in the State, as indicated in an e-mail owning up the Jaipur blasts earlier this year. In that e-mail, the outfit had warned about terror strikes in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

The e-mail had also announced creation of separate wings for North India and South India.

Given the fact that a series of blasts were carried out in Delhi on September 13, the police in other States are taking the threat seriously and have been visiting Delhi in search of relevant inputs. Not long ago, the Anti-Terrorist Squad of the Maharashtra police was also here to join the investigations.

“We are extending all possible assistance to our colleagues from the other States,” said a police officer, adding that the findings of the investigations were being shared with them to facilitate a crackdown on the terror network in the country.
