Pranav forced to sweat

KOCHI: State sub-junior champion, Ernakulam’s Pranav Satheesh, was forced to sweat by Kottayam’s Ibrahim Ali Salim 21-15, 15-21, 21-19 in a junior boys’ second round match of the Kerala Badminton Players Welfare Association’s all-Kerala badminton tournament which began at the Regional Sports Centre here on Thursday.

In other close matches, Ernakulam’s Aarush Setia defeated Kiran George 21-9, 20-22, 21-14 in the under-13 boys’ second round while local lad Pranav Vijayan beat Thrissur’s Kiran Joshi 21-15, 17-21, 21-16 in the under-16 boys’ section.

Balagopalan Thampi, a former Kerala champion who coached some of the biggest names in Kerala badminton, inaugurated the tournament. — Principal Correspondent
