Nihal hits hundred

KOCHI: Nihal Unni hit an unbeaten 136 as host Central Zone made 311 for six in its stipulated 70 overs in the Kerala State under-19 inter-zone cricket championship which began at the St. Paul’s College, Kalamassery, on Thursday.

Nihal’s big knock, which came off 215 balls, contained 20 fours and three sixes. In reply, North Zone was in trouble at 86 for five in its first innings.

In the other match, at the BPCL Kochi Refinery Oval, South Zone made 231 for eight against Combined District’s XI.

The scores: Central 311 for six in 70 overs (Nihal Unni 136 n.o., Jaffer Jamal 64, K. Shyju 30) v North 86 for five in 20 overs (Velgin Baby 31).

South Zone 231 for eight in 70 overs (Akhil Viswanath 43, Jithin Ramachandran 34, Sachin Mohan 32, Jaison 30, Azgar three for eight) v Combined Districts XI 70 for two in 16 overs. – Principal Correspondent
