The practice of greeting Muslims has been a regular feature for the past several years
|
Secular: Members of ’Tiruvarul Peravai’ greeting Muslims on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr, at the Arabic College Mosque in Pudukottai on Wednesday.
PUDUKOTTAI: People belonging to different faiths, cutting across religious barriers, assembled at the Idgah ground here on Wednesday, to greet a huge congregation of Muslims coming out of the ground after offering the special ‘dua’ (prayers) on the occasion of Ramzan.
The practice of greeting Muslims on such important festivals has been a regular feature for the members of ‘Tiruvarul Peravai’ for the past several years.
A public address system was put in place, facilitating the speakers to express their greetings.
Religion is no barrier
“The practice aims at promoting communal harmony. There are Christians and Hindus, but religion is no barrier for us,” they said.
A number of office-bearers of the Peravai and also other associations spoke on the occasion, explaining the urgent need for sensitising the masses to communal harmony in the present-day context.
