Akhil shines

KOCHI: Leg-spinner M.S. Akhil finished with a match-haul of 10 wickets as Ernakulam crushed Thrissur by an innings and 72 runs and won the Central Zone under-19 inter-district cricket championship at the Tripunithura Palace Oval on Wednesday.

Akhil had taken four first innings wickets without conceding a run on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he grabbed six wickets from six overs giving away just 14 runs.

This is Ernakulam’s third victory in the Central Zone this year. The district had won the under-16 and under-22 titles earlier.

The scores: Thrissur 56 & 58 in 22 overs (M.S. Akhil six for 14) lost to Ernakulam 186. — Principal Correspondent
