Swimming centre openedSwim Life, which is emerging as the fastest growing swimming academy in Bangalore, opened yet another training centre at Vibgyor High School in Marathahalli here on Wednesday and its seventh centre was inaugurated by the chief National swimming coach, S. Pradeep Kumar. The academy run by the former State champion and National medallist, M. Satish Kumar, will provide quality training to 800 strong students of Vibgyor. Pradeep Kumar while hailing the initiative of Vibgyor, in constructing a standard 25 metre pool and offering it to a professional swimming academy for training the school children, said, “the move would go a long way in promoting the sport. Even if 30 to 40 kids take up swimming every year, Vibgyor can produce a string of good swimmers through professional guidance of Satish Kumar and his dedicated band of coaches,” said Pradeep Kumar. Support systemPradeep Kumar stressed the need for an adequate and all-round support system for the swimmers and the efforts of schools and swimming academies alone are not enough. Mr. T.D. Vijayaraghavan, vice-president of the Swimming Federation of India and secretary of the Karnataka Swimming Association, who was the guest of honour said, “KSA will support this venture in every way and I request Vibgyor and Swim Life to apply for affiliation when they are fully functional and send teams for State meets.” Rehan Poncha, the National champion was another special invitee, who applauded the efforts of Vibgyor and Swm Life and said, “while appreciating this venture, I would request them to show some patience in getting the results. Success doesn’t come overnight in this sport. It takes a lot of effort on the part of everyone, who are involved.” Mr. Awaldas Jethani, Director of Vibgyor, said that school would fully utilise its pool with the help of Swim Life. M. Satish Kumar, the Director of Swim Life, said that his academy, had launched a programme called ‘Swim Bangalore Swim’, aimed at creating awareness about swimming and also it would offer training facilities to elders, to mark the World Elders Day.
