Hockey
BANGALORE: Pioneer Corps Training Centre (PCTC) drew with Namdhari 3-3 in the State Super Division hockey league championship. It was Namdhari, down 0-3 by the 15th minute, which had to regroup to salvage a point from this encounter, with the equaliser coming in the very last minute of play. With Mundu (second) and Manju (fifth and 15th minutes) striking early for the qualifier (PCTC), it was Namdhari which was on the backfoot even as Karamjeet Singh pulled one back in the 19th minute itself. But PCTC’s aspirations of gaining full points from this encounter were dashed as Sher Singh struck twice in the 59th and 69th minutes of play to help his team sneak a draw. Canara Bank’s runIn the day’s other fixtures, Canara Bank kept its winning momentum going with an odd goal in three win over Army Green while title favourite BPCL whipped Karnataka State Police 5-0 for its third straight win. Though BPCL took time to find its bearings, Gurpreet Singh scored the first of his three goals in the 22nd minute and there was no looking back as the KSP citadel fell at regular intervals. Gurpreet completed his hat-trick with goals in the 52nd and 57th minutes before Olympian Tushar Khandekar (59th) and Amar Aiyamma (64th) got into the act to swell the tally. For Canara Bank too this was its third successive win and coming against a strong Army Green side was all the more pleasing. After a blank first session Sameer Baxla put the bankmen ahead almost on resumption but S.P. Tirkey neutralised the advantage for Green in the 47th minute. However Canara Bank was not to be denied its full points as mercurial Laxman Rao sounded the boards in the 52nd minute.
