‘Singur debacle will not hamper U.S. investment’

Staff Reporter

KOLKATA: John Davison, Economic Minister Counsellor at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, said here on Wednesday “I do not think that the land-acquisition controversy over the Tata Motors small car factory in Singur is going to throw a spanner on future American investments in the state as it is an isolated issue,”. .Mr. Davison was attending an interactive session at the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

Maturity

Speaking about the $2500 Nano car whose rolling out has been at the eye of the storm due to Opposition resistance, he said, “the car reflects more of the maturity of the Indian economy, as it is meant for the average middle-class Indian, than an investment by an automobile company.”
