DVAC raids TNPCB office

Staff Reporter

KISHNAGIRI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption officials raided the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board office in Hosur on Tuesday.

On specific information, the officials raided the TNPCB office. Investigation revealed that 70 factories in Hosur SIPCOT were discharging wastewater into the drainage before treatment in connivance with the officials. There are 1,200 factories in SIPCOT. Of these, 70 units which were engaged in chemical and granite polishing indulged in such malpractice to save power though they had 100 per cent desalination plants within the factory premises, Ramachandran, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DVAC, Krishnagiri, said.

The officials also visited five factories in SIPCOT and verified the allegations and found that the officials committed serious offence by allowing the industries to release wastewater without treatment.

The DVAC has recommended departmental inquiry against Kamaraj, District Environment Officer, Siva Rudrappa and Palanisamy alias Viswanathan.
