Sushil Kumar. CHENNAI: Sushil Kumar, wrestling bronze medallist in the Beijing Olympics, has said that scientific dietary measures were instrumental in allowing him to compete in the correct weight category at the 2008 Games. Speaking at the endorsement signing ceremony of a nutrition products manufacturer at a city hotel on Tuesday, Sushil said: “A medal would have been unlikely without the invaluable inputs of a dedicated team of experts who helped me chalk out an exact schedule of diet and training. Actually, there is little point in training hard if proper dietary requirements are not being met.” Sushil whose normal weight hovers around the 72kg mark whittled his bulk by six kilos just before the Olympics to compete in the 66kg freestyle category. The stocky wrestler also heaped praise on his coaches, Yashvir Singh and Satpal, who he credited with nurturing his talent from the time he was a scrawny teenager training at the Chattrasal Stadium on the Delhi-Haryana border. Next targetSushil said his focus now was on the Commonwealth Games that would be held in New Delhi in 2010. “A schedule of training has already been prepared and I try to avoid missing sessions even when I am on the move. Even here (in Chennai), I try to get a workout when I can,” he added. — Sports Reporter
