Anbumani’s take on homosexuality

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss will take up the issue of amending law related to homosexuality with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, on his support for legalising homosexuality though the Centre had distanced itself from this view in the Delhi High Court on Monday, Dr. Ramadoss said: “These are not my views, but of the department. I will take up the matter with the Prime Minister.” He also asked the Home Ministry to be “more responsible” in its statements.

The Centre had told the Delhi High Court not to consider Dr. Ramadoss’ views on allowing same gender sex among two consenting adults.

Dr. Ramadoss sought legalisation of homosexuality arguing that it could help in better treatment of people suffering from HIV/AIDS.
