Bishops welcome PM’s assurance

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) on Tuesday welcomed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s assurance to curb anti-Christian violence.

The statement was issued in the wake of the assurance given by Dr. Singh to the European Union(EU) on Monday that “India is a secular State, multi-cultural society; the Constitution of India guarantees freedom to all to profess and propagate their religion.” On the concern expressed by the EU about the violence against Christians in some parts of India, the CBCI said it was understandable for the globalised world to respond to such incidents.
