Meet on habitat development concludes

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A two-day conference on habitat development, focussing on the post tsunami reconstruction perspective concluded in Chennai on Tuesday.

It was an opportunity to bring together policy makers, practitioners, planners and other humanitarian agencies on a common platform to share the learnings of the last four years, jointly assess the positives and negatives of reconstruction work carried out so far and chalk out a path forward incorporating all the information into a meaningful policy for building disaster-proof shelters in the State.

On the concluding day, discussions revolved around post-disaster temporary and semi-permanent constructions, permanent shelter reconstruction, water and sanitation, habitat planning and infrastructure, institutionalising disaster-proof constructions.

An exhibition was also organised on the occasion.
