Bomb hoax at park creates panic Crime Notes

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Panic gripped joggers at Visvesvaraya Park in HMT Layout on Tuesday morning following a bomb hoax call. A car found abandoned near the park fuelled the anxiety.

According to police, a receptionist of Ample Technologies, a firm dealing with electronic gadgets, received a call from a public call booth around 9.30 a.m. stating that an explosive has been placed in the park, which is widely used by residents. The police who were informed rushed to the park with sniffer dog squad and bomb detection squad. After a search, the call turned out to be a hoax. Interestingly, the car that caused anxiety among the public had been abandoned by its owner after it developed a technical snag on Monday night. The owner was tracked down by the police with the assistance of the Road Transport Department.

Two persons waylaid a woman and made away with her gold chain and earrings in Laxmipura near Indiranagar on Monday night. The police said Shoba, a resident of Laxmipura and an employee of a garment outlet in Shivajinagar, was walking home after finishing work when the two motorcycle-borne men accosted her. They snatched her gold chain and forced her to part with her earrings. When they tried to use force to remove bangles, Shoba raised an alarm following which the duo escaped.
