Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested a senior official of the Southern Railway here on Tuesday.
Based on a complaint lodged by contractor Ramakrishnan that Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer S. Sheshadri had demanded a bribe of Rs.1 lakh for sanctioning bills for three works he had executed, the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau laid a trap.
A case was registered against the official and he was arrested on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000 as a first instalment from the contractor.
A special team conducted searches on the house of the accused and made enquiries about his assets and bank accounts.
Sheshadri was produced before a special judge for remand, CBI sources said.
