St. Thomas and Vimala regain titles

VICTORIOUS DUO: Josna P. Joy and K.S. Vivek, the individual champions of the Calicut University inter-collegiate aquatics meet.

THRISSUR: Expectedly, the two colleges from the host town, St. Thomas and Vimala, regained the team championships at the Calicut University inter-collegiate aquatics meet at the Aquatic Complex here on Tuesday.

In the men’s section, St. Thomas scored 84 points to finish ahead of Sree Kerala Varma, Thrissur, which secured the runner-up spot with 69. Govt. College, Chittoor, was a distant third with 18 points.

In the women’ event, Vimala finished with 98 points, well head of the second-placed St. Mary’s, Thrissur, which had 64 points. Govt. College, Chittor, was third with two points.

K.S. Vivek of St. Thomas and Josna P. Joy of Vimala won the individual titles, in the men’s and women’s sections respectively. Vivek claimed six gold, two silver and a bronze to score 23 points. Josna’s tally 25 points, with seven gold, a silver and a bronze.

100m breaststroke: 1. V. Pramod (SKVC), 2. V. Krishnadas (St. Thomas), 3. K.S. Vivek (St. Thomas), (1:24.06).

100m butterfly: 1. P. Kumaran (St. Thomas), 2. B. Vineeth (Govt., Chittoor), 3. V. Krishnadas (St. Thomas), (1:05.0).

100m backstroke: 1. A. Prakash (St. Thomas), 2. V. Vijeesh (SKVC), 3. Jijeesh Jayan (St. Thomas), (1:06.5).
