St. Joseph’s Engineering College triumphs

Coimbatore: Chennai’s St. Joseph’s Engineering College topped the league table and emerged champion in the State-level volleyball tournament for women, organised by Lotus Volleyball Club, at the Chinna Thadagam Government Girls HSS courts here recently.

PSGR Krishnammal College for Women (Coimbatore) defeated Lotus Women’s Volleyball Club 25-22, 25-18 in its last league match and took the second spot.

In the district-level tournament for men, Thadagam Volleyball Club bounced back to beat MMVC (Ujjanur) 23-25, 29-27, 27-25 and clinch the title.

The results:

Men: Final: Thadagam Volleyball Club bt MMVC (Ujjanur) 23-25, 29-27, 27-25.

Final standings: 1. Thadagam VC, 2. MMVC (Ujjanur), 3. SDMVC (Thadagam), 4. KMVC (Uppilipalayam).

Women: League: PSGR Krishnammal bt Lotus Women’s VC 25-22, 25-18.

Final standings: 1. St. Joseph’s EC (Chennai), 2. PSGR Krishnammal (Cbe), 3. SDAT (Chennai), 4. SRM EC (Chennai), 5. Lotus VC.

Mariappan sparkles

A fine all-round display by S. Mariappan (four for 23 & 70 n.o.) enabled PSG College of Technology score a convincing six-wicket win over Dolphin Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-CDCA third division cricket league for the Servall Trophy at the PSG Tech grounds recently.

The scores: Third division (Servall Trophy): Dolphin CC 159 in 40.1 overs (S. Mariappan four for 23) lost to PSG Tech 160 for four in 30.3 overs (S. Mariappan 70 n.o.).

Fourth division (Tirupur Textiles Trophy): Cosmo Village SA ‘B’ CC 203 in 47 overs (Arun 63) bt Rainbow Wizards CC 139 in 35.3 overs (Sathish Kumar 41); SNR Sons College 148 for eight in 50 overs (C.J. Narayan 52 n.o.) lost to Coimbatore Raiders CA 151 for one in 30.3 overs (Chandra Prakash 70).
