160 folk artistes screened at special health camp in Karur

KARUR: A special health camp was conducted here recently exclusively for the benefit of folk artistes. Over 160 artistes participated in the camp organized by the Department of Art and Culture, Department of Health Services, the Lions Club of Karur and Narada Gana Sabha.

Mr. Venkatesh inaugurated the camp and urged the artistes to keep an eye on their health as only that would ensure their economical wellbeing. They could perform well only if their physical and psychical health was maintained properly, he added.

The State Government had directed departments concerned to organise similar camps in all the districts for the benefit of rural artistes and folk artistes, said Assistant Director of Art and Culture R. Gunasekaran.

Joint Director of Health Services Ilamathi, Lions Club of Karur president N. Karuppusamy, Narada Gana Sabha secretary V. Anand and others participated in the inaugural function.

A team of medical and paramedical experts led by Dr. Ganeshram conducted tests and examinations on folk artistes on a range of areas including general medicine, eye, ECG, and blood tests. A total of 163 artistes attended the camp and five were referred for cataract eye surgery and 14 for receiving spectacles.

All the participating folk artistes were given identity cards to facilitate continued medical assistance.
