Residents stage agitation
NAMAKKAL: Over 400 residents of Pottireddypatti blocked the traffic on Thuraiyur main road near here on Tuesday demanding the release of a DMK panchayat union councillor, who was arrested in a clash between cadres of DMK and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi.
Police said Thangavel and a few other DMK members allegedly entered into a quarrel with the VCK cadres, when the latter staged a demonstration demanding the opening of a newly-constructed public toilet in the village. This led to a clash between the cadres of the two parties. Based a complaint from the VCK members, police arrested Thangavel. Protesting against this, the residents of the village resorted to a road blockade. Police personnel rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.
