Career oriented programmes inaugurated

PUDUKOTTAI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) sponsored career oriented programmes were inaugurated at the Government Arts College for Women, in Pudukottai recently.

The programme is an innovative new scheme planned exclusively for the students of this college, said the Principal, D. Bhooma in her presidential address.

Explaining the salient features of the various schemes Bhooma highlighted that opportunities should be provided to students all over, which are now cornered only by the students of urban areas.

She said that the whole schedule comprised of four schemes.

Scheme I covered ‘general studies for competitive examinations’ at three levels – level I: one year Certificate course; level II: two years Diploma course; and level III: three years Advance Diploma course. The scheme II was providing special coaching for ‘entry into services’ to SC and ST Students; while scheme III was providing coaching for ‘entry into services’ for minorities; and scheme IV remedial coaching to SC and ST students.

Scheme I is a unique course and first of its kind which covered the entire syllabus for IAS preliminary and main examinations.

A batch of 40 students will be selected based on their performance in the entrance test for scheme I, 30 for scheme II, 50 for scheme III and 200 for scheme IV.

Scheme II and III will provide rigorous training for entry into any services like UPSC, civil services, group I, II, III and IV, LIC and Bank recruitments, etc., Scheme IV will provide intense coaching for academically weak students belonging to SC and STs.

The Regional Deputy Director Employment, Tiruchi Region, P. Suresh Kumar, who inaugurated the programme, urged the students to take full advantage of the rare opportunity. He urged the students to keep themselves abreast of general knowledge and current affairs, cultivate reading habit and work hard with total commitment for achieving the set goals.

S. Rasani, lecturer in Chemistry and R. Rathi Sharmeela, a final year English Literature student, offered felicitations.
