KCBC drama awards

KOCHI: ‘Annoru Mazhayathu,’ a play written by Francis T. Mavelikkara, directed by Vaslon Nisari and presented by Thiruvananthapuram Sopanam was adjudged the best play at the professional drama competition held by the Media Commission of the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Conference. ‘SMS Vazhi Vanna Pranayam,’ presented by Ochira Nila was adjudged the second best play.

Valson Nisary was also adjudged the best director during the drama festival, an annual feature that has been uninterrupted for two decades now. Pradeep Kumar Kavunthara who wrote ‘Karale Maappu’ was adjudged the best script-writer.

The plays were judged by a team comprising C.K. Thomas, Babu Kuruvilla and Nelson Fernandez, said Father Joseph Nicholas, secretary of the KCBC Media Commission at a press conference here.

Babu Raj Thiruvalla, who played the role of Ayyappan Nair in ‘Nerkaazhcha’ presented by Kottayam Kairali and Suji who played Gopika in ‘SMS Vazhi Vanna Pranayam’ were adjudged the best actors. Thonnakkal Jayachandran won the Special Jury Award for his role in ‘Nerkaazhcha.’
