KOCHI: Kerala’s P.G. Abhilash, a former Raid de Himalaya champion and former winner of the national novices class, will make his international debut at the Malaysian rally championship at Johor Bahru on October 9. Abhilash, who will have the seasoned Vivek Ponnuswamy as his co-driver, will be driving in the 2000cc class in a Proton Putra. “This is my first rally in a four-wheel drive but since Karamjit Singh (a former Production Cars world champion) has been guiding me, I hope to finish on the podium,” said the 32-year-old at the Gokulam Park here on Monday. The Malaysian rally is also a round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship. The Malaysian event will also see Abhilash, a former JK-Chettinad team driver, return to the rally scene after nearly two years. — Principal Correspondent
