Staff Correspondent

Mine owner says Minister provoked his men to attack guard

The complainant is T. Chandrashekar

of TNR Mines

Owners of TNR Mines and Janardhan Reddy

are at loggerheads

BELLARY: The dispute between TNR Mines, operating at Tumti village in Sandur taluk, and Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), owned by G. Janardhan Reddy, Minister for Tourism, took a curious turn with T. Chandrashekar of TNR Mines filing a police complaint against the Minister.

In the complaint lodged with the Toranagal police, Mr. Chandrashekar said that a few persons from the OMC entered TNR mining area, assaulted a security guard and took away machinery and equipment towards the Vitlapur forest area.

The severely damaged machinery was found abandoned in the forest area.

Mr. Chandrashekar accused Mr. Janardhan Reddy of “provoking” his henchmen and sought security to the staff of TNR Mines and their families. The Toranagal police have registered a case (FIR No. 118) under IPC sections 379, 392, 323, 504, 506 and 109, read with Section 34.

It may be recalled that the owners of TNR Mines have been accusing Mr. Janardhan Reddy of misusing his power and office to get the boundaries of TNR Mines and also that of the inter-State border changed.

Tapal Ganesh of TNR Mines has been claiming that they have been carrying on mining in the area for the past four decades and the dispute began only after Mr. Reddy entered the mining business.

Talking to presspersons here on Monday, M. Diwakar Babu, Congress leader and former Minister, expressed concern over the silence of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on the charge against his Cabinet colleague.

He reiterated that he would meet the Chief Minister this week and explain how attempts were on to change the inter-State border.

Refutes charge

Meanwhile, T.H. Suresh Babu, Kampli MLA and a close associate of Mr. Reddy, refuted the charge made by Mr. Diwakar Babu.

He said the accusations were baseless and made to tarnish the image of the Minister.
